WHY DVROCKSTAR?
Growing up, I always dreamed of becoming a rockstar. As a teenager, I bought a Fender acoustic and then, later, an electric guitar. I even got a tripped out delay pedal that could potentially make me sound like one of those atmosphereic indie bands I so admired. There was just one problem, though: I couldn't play guitar. Not well, anyway.
Lucky for you -- and the people I live with -- I traded my electric guitar for a digital video camera and found a better means to express myself. Don't get me wrong, I still love obscure independent music and some nights when I'm on my own, I still pull out my acoustic guitar and plunk out three-chord pop songs. But I get a greater satisfaction out of the video I create, weaving stories out of moving images and sound, expressing ideas with the use of real metaphor. As a writer, I find it's just an extension of my pen.
I'm especially drawn to documentary because I find real, personal experiences so compelling and relative to the collective human experience. In a world bent on making us all the same, I aim to make films that celebrate individuality.
