The trolley song

Back tracking a little bit, here are me and my trolley, singing Zach "The Trolley Song." It's a lot easier to laugh at, now that I don't actually have to roll trolley with me everywhere I go. I'm actually looking forward to my morning shower, where I'll have the whole bathroom to myself!

Eva:

Good Morning, Katie!

Okay, so what is the only Air Force base without a runway? The answer is F.E. Warren in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It is a missile wing, no runway needed. The base has a fascinating history. It began as a Buffalo Soldiers outpost on the frontier. The Buffalo soldiers were black. Today they have reconstituted units that appear in parades and teach Black History. Then Warren became a Cavalry headquarters. During WWII it was a Quartermasters Unit. When the Cold War got hot, it was transferred to the Air Force because of proximity to the silos in the middle of nowhere. No landing strips needed. Now it decommissions the silos as we stand down this part of US defenses.

How do I know this? Like you, I am in exile from my home. At this time of year I would have the windows open in my little 1941 bungalow. I would hear distantly the base trumpeter play revele, followed by the national anthem being blasted from the base speaker system. In the Phoenix heat, I yearn for the cool of Cheyenne. You will get home before I do, lucky girl. Home to eat from your own dishes. Home to open your windows to the sounds of San Francisco. Home to those you love.

I'm not feeling sorry for myself--honest. I am where I need to be doing what I need to do for family I love. I am feeling happy for you. Happy that all is going well enough to make your doctor giddy. Happy that you are disconnected from the trolley. Happy that the end of your treatment is in sight.

Have a Happy Day, Katie--and all of you who love her.

Eva

Mom:

Dear Katie,
You were talking about your hair falling out, now you get to wear the hot red wig that you bought!!!
Also you were talking about if you had a good looking head, I know that you did as a baby and your dad was bald and he didn't have a funny shaped head. So it looks like you are in good shape on this point.
It is really hot here, the animals don't know what to do with themselves. Don pressure washed the guest house, that is the building that we just had roofed and he is going to paint it. I cleaned and caught up with things that got behind while I was working-laundry, correspodence(bills!!!), watering plants etc.
Got to get supper on.
Love,
Mom
