Well, I know I just posted saying that I wasn't going home, but that was actually yesterday (I couldn't post yesterday because I wasn't finished with my latest Top 10). Anyway, today, Monday, October 27, two weeks since my admission, I am finally going home!!! And, that's all I'm going to write because I'm going to pack up my stuff and hit the road!

cheers,
Katie

Joan Saffa:

Yea! So glad to hear you're going home, Katie. I loved seeing Ian & Zach for dinner when Aaron was in town, but we missed you. Glad to hear you're one step closer to joining us around the dinner table again. Sending lots of love and healing thoughts your way...
Joan

Marie:

Yay Katie! So glad to hear you're out of the hospital and on to better Top 10 lists ... :)

P.S. What an adorable photo of Zach!

Shona:

"Birds flying high, you know how I feel. Fish swimming in the sea, you know how I feel. It's a new dawn, it's a new day, and I'm feeeling good."

Here's to being free, (and feeling good, soon, if not right right now.)

love ya.

Adrienne Van Gorden:

Well, I just got caught up on all that has happened, gall-bladder wise. I am sorry that that happened to you. I really am. I hope you are feeling well enough to enjoy our time now that you are "sprung". All my love,
Adrienne

Meredith:

Welcome home, Katie!! Just in time for Halloween...and hopefully much celebration on Tuesday :-)

And way to go in advocating for yourself...what were they thinking putting you in a room with a person with pneumonia?! Geesh.

Keep us posted on your recovery. (And Zach's Halloween costume...)
Much love, Mer

Shona:

Me again, I was also wondering about Zach's Halloween costume. Too bad they don't pass out ham snacks when you trick or treat. Love to the whole household there.

Mom:

Dear katie,
Hope you are home by now. that was a long time in the hospital for a GB surgery. But so gald that they were taking such good care of you.
I am going to an Alanon retreat at a lake resort tomorrow and through Sunday. A friend and I are going together. I sure am looking forward to it. Have always wanted to go to one of these but have been working or whatever.
the weather has been so great, cold a night in the 70's in the day.
Well, hope you have a good Halloween-it was a fun time for me when you were kids-I still have that balck cape that I made out of old sheets. Rmember Peter as the Karate Kid? I painted the headband from a picture.
Love to you all,
Mom

Ian:

Here are a few pics of Zach in his bee costume. He sure cracks me up.

Hooray! Welcome home, Katie! So glad you were able to finally escape from the hospital. Sometimes I think boredom itself can be deadly. I'm happy that your eyes get to see more than the hospital ward, that your lungs get to breathe fresh air.

Today it snowed for the first time this season. A gritty, scouring snow paired with sideway winds, so there's just the lightest dusting of white outside. Needless to say, I postponed plans to run errands and stayed home. Happily, the box of winter clothing from my mom arrived today, so I have the proper boots and coat for the weather.

Love the photos of Zach in his bee costume! Halloween isn't a big deal in Sweden, but since this is a university town, it's a good excuse to throw parties and get drunk. There are a couple of parties tonight, most likely filled with 22-year-olds, so we'll probably skip it. Tomorrow night, there will be a party at Rob's design school, which I'm looking forward to attending and helping to set up.

Not sure what my costume will be. My wardrobe here is severely edited, so I think my only options are '80s or sock-hopper. Rob, as I'm sure you would guess, is not into dressing up for Halloween. but he actually has a costume, as part of a class assignment. He's half a sandwich, consisting of a slice of toasted bread and swiss cheese. His classmate is the other half, with another slice of bread plus lettuce and tomato. The assignment was to program some element of interaction into a costume, so when the two halves "sandwich" a victim between them, a touchpad is activated, triggering a camera to take a photo. It's pretty funny, and I'm absurdly proud of him for being willing to don a sandwich suit.

I hope Zach enjoys Halloween and you enjoy being home. Thinking of you, with much love,

Charlene

p.s. My voice-over-IP number has a NYC area code but rings to my computer, so if you want to call, feel free! If I'm online, I'll pick up. Otherwise, it goes to voicemail.

Aaron:

Hey Katie!

I have been WAAAAY behind in checkin up here, and had many posts to catch up on. I was so glad to see the last one was such good news! I was thinking of you on election day in particular, since I know you share my nervous anticipation/cautious optimism???

And we'll need all the ferocious looney lefties going strong even after the election, so I'm glad you're back home and on the mend!

Cheers,
A
