Today was pretty amazing for our hero. We started off driving up to Petaluma to cut down a Christmas tree. Katie was a trooper through the whole thing, though a bit cold as you can see from the photo. After a quick stop at the farmer's market, we went home where everyone took a nap. In the afternoon Katie went out shopping with Marlene and spent a good deal of time kickin it with Zach. We rounded the day out putting lights on the tree. It was a glorious thing to see Katie joining in on the entire day's events!

P.s. I'm continuing to muck with the comments to try and find a way for
everyone to post with ease and still keep the spammers out. Bear with me.

Sounds like an amazing day. Sorry about the cold and the spam. Somehow it's always dark and kinda rainy when we pick out the family tree, and usually somebody cries (either because we miss mom or we're just plain cold and cranky.) We just got back from Manzanillo where Virgen de Guadelupe fever (which culminates on Dec. 12) coincides with Christmas fever and there were altars and, yes, decorated pine (real and fake) trees everywhere. Meanwhile it was sunny and like in the mid 80's, feeling like mid 90's and we could see the ocean from everywhere. Bizarre and wonderful, since we hail from such a foggy dank clime ourselves.
much love,
Shona

Strange as it sounds, I MISS that cold and rain... Everyone groans when I say it, but I do get tired of the hot weather down here in LaLa land, and always get a big smile when we get some rain. I also remember going to Sonoma to get our "Channukah Bush" when I was a kid, so thank you for the reminder and trip down memory lane.
Look forward to catching up, and seeing you when I'm up North for the Holdays!

Katie--
Another take on the photo is that you are auditioning for a part as Mother Time. After all these years, Father Time is a tired cliche and oh, so ready for a female takeover. At any rate, you look adorable with your hood and sickle. I'm sure you found a great tree. How I wish I were a bug on the wall to smell it! There's nothing like fresh cut evergreen.
Love to all of you. Do I send the chocolate to Florida?
Lovingly, Eva

Katie:
I hear you saw Bob at Pizza Antica --and now an outing with the tree. So glad that you're out and about. Like Aaron, I remember those rainy family fun fests to Sonoma to chop down the perfect tree. Are we having fun yet? However, despite the cold and rain I wouldn't miss the experience. Happy, happy holidays to you all...
Love, Joan

Dear Katie,
You do look mighty cold indeed. The last few days it has not gotten over 18 with a windchill factor of 0!!!.
How was your Thnksgiving? We decided to go to the Casino. It was fun until the electicity was lost and so was all the money in the machine and they never did get it fixed and we ate a lousy Thnaksgiving Buffet and came home. but we didn't get home until Don got his deer for theyear-a perfect 8 point buck. He collided with the pick up and when we stopped a guy stopped to see if we neeeded any help and while we were assessing the damage, the deer croaked. so we loaded it up in the guy;s pickup and now he will have good eating for the winter. The pickup is now in the shop for $2,500 worht of damage. IT WAS A MEMORABLE THANKSGIVING!!!
Well, hope all is going mcuh better with you as far a no more pain and mcuh more stamina.
Much love and hugs,
Mom
